On 24th February 2016 the Worlds Day Of Social Justice was celebrated in the college in association with Legal Services Authority Udupi, Legal Info Pages Udupi, Bar Association Udupi and Vaikunta Baliga College Of Law Udupi. The program started with the launching and inauguration 0f Awareness on wheel a zero crime project reform by the Legal Info Pages.
The inauguration was done by the guest Hon’ble Sri. Shivashankar B.Amarannavar District and session judge and chairman legal services authority Udupi. In his inaugural speech he mentioned that every year February 20th is celebrated as the day of social justice. To celebrate this day we have to uphold the principles of social justice. He also stated that the Preamble and various Articles mentioned in the Indian Constitution uphold the concept of social justice. To ensure that no one is deprived of his legal rights the Legal Services Authority provides free legal aid to the needy people. Advocates are deputed in legal aid cell to provide advice to the needy. The authority also creates legal awareness program to educate the public.
Managing editor of Legal Info Pages in Mrs. Sulthana Iqbal in her talk she told the purpose of launching of the awareness of free wheel. She mentioned that legal aid is essential for the citizens, legal awareness is necessary to gain their rights. Most of the people are not aware of their rights and of law and it is the reason for their exploitation. So it is a small effort from their team to create awareness amongst the public.
The resource person for the day was Sri. Gururaj Aithal, Advocate, Udupi briefed upon the topic” Senior Citizen Act” and he unfolded on various provisions of the act. He highlighted on the provision of maintenance, benefits under the act, medical assistance to be claimed by the senior citizen and from whom it can be claimed. How the complaint can be registered and who can register and which authority has the jurisdiction to try the case.
Sri. Dayananda K, President of Udupi Bar Association and Principal Prof. Prakash Kanive, Sri. Rohit S.Amin, student welfare officer was also present on the dias.
