A Workshop on Career Guidance on Law was conducted by Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi in association with Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, Udupi, in the college auditorium. Students of final year from different colleges attended the workshop.
Dr Sandeep Bhat, Associate Professor of Law, National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata was the chief guest of the inaugural function. Mr Girish. K.C., the University Coordinator of KSLU was also present for the occasion. Ms Nivedita Baliga was the Master of Ceremonies. Ms Lavanya of 5 final invoked the blessings of God. Ms Apoorva of 5 final welcomed the gathering. Mr Vivek of 5 final formally introduced the chief guest to the gathering. The workshop was inaugurated by the guests by lighting the lamp.
Mr Girish K. C. delivered the key note address with a brief introduction on Career Guidance. He said that the University has been conducting workshops on Career Guidance in various zones. Dr Sandeep Bhat then delivered the inaugural address. He talked about the need to make the students aware of the opportunities available to them. He also mentioned the different options available after study of law. They are legal practice, teaching, civil services and judicial services, legal advising in law firms, Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO), NGOs, Corporate companies and hospitals. He further added that the students are developing new career options like Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) and starting independent courses.
The inaugural address was followed by the presidential address by Principal Prof. Prakash Kanive. The inauguration concluded with presentation of mementos to the guests. Ms Kirthi of 5 final proposed the vote of thanks.
The first Session was “Career Opportunities in Law” by Mr Aditya Kamath. He told the students about the career opportunities available to law graduates. He spoke of the opportunities in law firms, corporate world, banks both Indian and multinational, NGOs, LPOs, teaching field and many more. He also spoke about how to prepare for interviews and get through them.
The second session was by Mr Devraj Shettigar. He advised the students to decide the line of law they want to choose and start at the district and taluk level. They should work under some senior when they start. He said it is harder for civil advocates than criminal advocates. One most attend courts regularly and follow the proceedings by making notes. One has to strive hard at least for five years for success. He concluded the session by quoting that there is no substitute for hard-work and no greater knowledge than experience.
The third session was by Dr Sudheer Raj spoke about the capacity of human beings of being self aware and how this makes them active and gives them a purpose in life. The personality of a person will develop in to an institution. You work for it and it will work for you. Evolution is a gradual study. It is transformation, change and progress. He also spoke of positive psychology.
The technical sessions concluded by 4 PM with the distribution of certificates of participation to all the participants.
