REPORT ON HUMAN RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATION 2020
The Human Rights Day was celebrated on 10th December 2020 at 10 A.M. at VaikuntaBaliga College of Law in association with District Legal Services Authority Udupi. Shri. D. R. VenkataSudarshan, Chairman, District Consumer Forum, Shimoga was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The celebration was presided by Dr. RavindranathShanbhag, President of Human Rights Foundation and Consumer Forum Udupi. The principal of the institution, Prof. (Dr.) Nirmala Kumari welcomed the gathering.
During his talk, Shri VenkataSudarshan made reference of the historical evolution of Human Rights in the world. The present human rights are nothing but the natural rights which have been inherited by an individual. Sir also explained about the Indian legislation on Human rights i.e., The Protection of Human Rights Act 1993 and its provision. He also explained about Human Rights Commission and few UDHR provisions.With quoting few All India Reporter cases pertaining to Human Rights, he made a reference to how human rights are connected to Vedas and Upanishads and how Dharma and Religion are way different from one another. In his presidential address, Dr. RavindranathShanbhag tried to explain about the recent case which was dealt by him pertaining to human rights violation and how justice was rendered in less amount of time. The senior civil judge and member secretary of district legal services authority Udupi, Smt. Kaveri , proposed the vote of thanks. Almost 300 student participated both online and offline.
